The Jackals
The Elite Mercenary Group of Kahlan

A brief history of the Jackals

The mercenary group known as the Jackals have been wrapped in the fog of mystery for quite some time.  Very little was known of the group when they first appeared.  Doing odd jobs to eat, the Jackals soon became known for their amazing talents.  Soon they began to be hired for more dangerous tasks, assault, raids, assassinations.  They soon became feared by many of the northern kingdoms where they worked.  Eventually, their work caught up to them.  The assassination of Conalia's greatest general at their hand drove the northern kingdoms to send out every soldier in search of the group.  The group then disbanded, going their separate ways to stay alive.
The origins of the group are nothing more than theories, as none will speak of their past.  However, the best theory explains how the group came to pass in this way.  During the earliest parts of the Horde raids, an orphanage was attacked, and all were killed.  However, eye witnesses did see a man in a black cape bringing things out of the burning building before it collapsed onto itself.  Some believe that this man in black was the Crimson Jackal, and the items he was stealing were seven young orphans.  After taking them to some hidden base, the Crimson Jackal then proceeded to train the boys as the skilled fighters they are today.  And what he could not teach them, perhaps allies of the Crimson Jackal could.  The only flaw most find in this theory is the seventh child.  Eye witnesses all agreed that there were seven items removed from the orphanage, but there are only six jackals aside from the Crimson Jackal.

Character:  Hillsbrad aims for the strongest spot of his foes, preferring to attack head on.  Though he comes across as stone cold and harsh, he is actually good natured, and always enjoys a good laugh, especially at the expense of Karbane.

Character:  Aaramine took the break up of the Jackals very hard, as it was all that he had in life.  His mind is always on the reforming of the group, and trains for that day.  His need for acceptance by the public seems to drive him to do more and more, to the point of him becoming more common place than the wandering blessing he wished to be.

Character:  Golan is the fastest and deadliest of the Jackals, but because of the life he has lead, now abhors fighting altogether.  He has become tired and drained from the constant battles and time on the run.  He now wants nothing more than to disappear, never to be heard from again.

Jackal Name:  Vulture
Name:  Piff
Age:  37
Height:  5'5"
Choice Weapon:  War Staff of the Flame
Background:  After the break up of the Jackals, Piff took up in a hole in the side of a hill.  Only coming out when he needed supplies, Piff fought off anyone that would go near.  Soon, villagers referred to the hill as haunted, and on several occasions hired wizards to come and destroy the spirit within.  Much to the dismay of the hired wizards, the hill would fight back, and always win.
Character:  Piff is a powerful mage, but he's also not all that sane either.  He often goes on rants and raves about trivial, odd things, and will fire off a fireball at nothing but air.  But on the battle field, Piff is also a deadly adversary.  There is no guessing where this warrior will attack next.  Some believe, however, that it's all an act.  Piff's ability to change into a serious warrior from his wild and deranged self on the battle field seems almost too great.  In any case, Piff is not one to be underestimated.
