A brief history of the Order of Huldrain

The Order of Huldrain is centuries old, they can trace their roots back almost a thousand years.  The Order began as a group of healers during the periods of cataclysmic wars that rocked Kahlan.  However, in order to defend themselves, they began to train, and collect magical weaponry and armor.  Eventually, training and learning the arts of healing became their religion, and they became isolated deep inside Karkos.  Those who sought out their help usually either joined, or came back with knowledge of great healing, and a vow never to share the secret.
Eventually, the Order became wary of the outside world, and locked themselves into their mountain fortress.  About three hundred years ago, their Patriarch at the time detected their shrines to their new deity, Huldrain.  Ever since, the paladins have become even more devout in their beliefs, and more zealous in their training.  Under their new religion, the paladins began to go out among Karkos, teaching and finding new knights to add to their group.  Eventually, their religion spread throughout the country, and now, every summer, groups of the countries best young men compete for the chance to join the Order.
Under the leadership of Jerren, the Order began to go out and defend the kingdom of Karkos for the first time in hundreds of years.  This lead to Jerren's quest against Ethelred and his minions.  Taking a small band of paladins, Jerren set off on his holy quest...

The workings of the Paladin

The Paladins of Karkos follow a strict hierarchy.  The leader, named the Patriarch, leads them in all their religious rituals and military campaigns.  Beneath him is the Second Paladin, he is in direct control over the paladins during battles.  He is also the Patriarch's main assistant.  Next in line is the Third Paladin, in charge of recruiting and training.  He also is second in command during military campaigns, and leads the group if it splits up in two.  Next are the Lieutenants, in charge of odd tasks, such as carrying a holy artifact or scouting.  Next are the Paladin, 3rd class, which are leaders of groups of two paladins.  The two paladins of the group are the Paladin, 4th class, the lowest level of the Order.
The Paladins are magical knights, able to fight very well, and use magic abilities, mainly the power to heal by touch.  Their armor enhances their abilities greatly.

The Paladin Helm grants it's wearer protection from almost all magical attacks.  It also does not block out any sound from the outside from the person who wears it.
The Paladin Armor enhances it's wearer's strength three fold, allowing him to do great tasks with little effort.
The Paladin Shield is indestructible, and any light reflected off of it becomes holy, which will damage undead flesh.
The Paladin Sword is the paladins greatest asset.  It can burst into holy flame, severely damaging anything undead it touches.  If stabbed into the ground, it can act as a protective ward, preventing anything undead from approaching it.  Finally, the healing powers of the paladin are greatly enhanced by his sword, including giving him a self healing ability that requires no thought on the paladins part.

A paladin dressed in his full armor is a deadly opponent, and is very hard to defeat.  Mixed with their religious zeal, only the fool hearty would dare wage war against them.
