Tel'Karak Zrahl

About the Dragon

How I got Started

So how did I even start a project like Tel'Karak?  It all started with a mental blueprint.  For one entire year, I thought and thought about how the dragon would work.  I moved and posed the dragon in my mind, fixing all the joint problems, figuring out all the engineering tricks that I would need.  I then began looking at some of the pieces that I had available to me, and added them to my mental blueprint, solving more and more problems.  I then ordered pieces I thought I would need, including vast numbers of click hinges, from brickbay, and went to Wal-Mart and bought sets that I thought had pieces I needed.

It all started with a hand.

When I first began actual building of Tel'Karak, I first built a prototype hand.  It wasn't pretty or color coordinated, but it was functional.  I then began to simply build from there.  From hand to forearm, forearm to shoulder.  I then built and toyed with the head, knowing in my mind how the teeth would work, using the technique discussed in the head section.   I then built the neck, and while I was at it, the tail as well.  Then the hind legs were built, starting, like the forearms, with the feet.  The wings were next, and the body finishing off the beast.  The body was built using the pieces from two blue tubs, and then covering it with black bricks and plates.
