Epilogue
The years following King Ulmerad and Lord Daravon's
death were prosperous ones. Queen Alamir was a wise and gentle ruler,
and continued to keep Kahlan united under the Ikrosian flag. Garalt
and Alyia began their lives together as husband and wife, and after two
years, Alyia gave birth to a son. They named the boy Garadaine, after
Garalt's true father. Another two years later, Alyia gave birth to
a second child, a girl, which they named Kiana, after Garalt's true mother.
It was soon after that Queen Alamir gave up her throne to Garalt and
Alyia, choosing now to spend her time with her grandchildren. Garalt
was not as great a king as Ulmerad was, but Alyia was just as good a monarch
as her mother was. This did not trouble Garalt much, however, for he
was happy to have his wife there to help him. Garalt was, however,
a very powerful military leader. Garalt commanded the armies as well
as Daravon ever did, though he did not have to rely on fear to do so. Under
Garalt's rule, the standing army was rebuilt and the Knights of the Lion's
Crest and the Dragon Crest Knights were refilled with skilled, honorable
and loyal warriors.
Garn, the rogue Paladin of Huldrain, never again returned
to his native land of Karkos. He settled down in the Ikros capitol
and founded a new Order of Huldrain sect, teaching a whole new generation
of paladins. His teachings, however, were frequently interrupted by
Ceness, who took the time to visit Garn as often as possible. The two
warriors eventually married, and Ceness took up her role as Matriarch of
the paladins. Though the Patriarch would have traditionally taught
the warriors how to battle, and the Matriarch how to heal, the new order
had their roles switched. Ceness was by far a better warrior than Garn
ever was, and Garn was the only one of the two who could heal. Ceness'
sister, Chell, and Rikio eventually settled down in the capitol as well,
helping Garn and Ceness with the Order.
Demonclaw journeyed to the home of Mala to inquire about the Master Portal and his quest to bring back Vione. However, Mala's cottage was no longer where it was supposed to be, and in fact not even a foundation was left. Mala had left, and there was no trace of her. Demonclaw, with no place else to turn to bring back Vione, at least for the time being, took up arms beside his friend Greylen.
After Demonclaw's return from Mala's cottage, Greylen and Demonclaw set out to discover more about the Priests of Zaan. Using the Book of Relgwyn, Greylen became an extremely powerful wizard, and traveled all over the world making a name for himself. Demonclaw, though now unneeded by Greylen for protection, tagged along for friendship's sake. Their journey's became legendary in Ikros, and whenever they would return, the people would give them parades and banquets in their honor.
Drakon settled down in the very sizable land set aside for the Triark Dragoons by Ulmerad. Every year or so, Drakon would go out and find more of his kin and tell them about their new home. Before long, the lands of the Triark were filled with over a thousand Dragoons, men and women of all ages, who all had pledged their allegiance to Ikros. Garalt has yet to call upon them for their aid.
Swift-Strike, the rogue elf, disappeared shortly after the unification of Kahlan. He has never been heard from since. Garalt always assumed he had gone back to do the work of whatever group he belonged to. Wherever he had gone, though, Garalt knew he would be seen again in Ikros some day.
The magics that had been released from the deaths of the four dragons began to take their toll over the world. Hordes of demons and other vile creatures began to roam the lands. However, just as the dark magics had created the demonic hordes, so too the light magics create armies of centaurs, pegasus, and other goodly creatures. Great wars in the remotest of places were fought between the forces of light and dark, and the humans were never aware. There are some scholars, however, who believe that not all the magic has been used. Some point out an ancient, all but forgotten prophecy to explain the lost magic, others believe it means even greater armies are destined to roll over the lands.
Ikros remained peaceful, however. During the decade that followed Garalt's coronation, there were no threats ever made to Ikrosian shores. Ikros was finally at peace.
The end.
