Escape from Venorian Forest
an illustrated tale

Fortunately for the two knights, they were close enough to the other side of the lake that they could stand and not drown.
"My Queen! Princess!  Swim for the shore!" Kullvox called out, the two women slowly gaining their barings.

Garalt looked about and froze when his eyes met the thing that had flipped their boat.  Sticking part way out of the water was a most fearsome sight.  A large, decaying undead sea serpent was looking the two knights down, snarling and snapping it's skeletal jaws.  The stench the beast made was almost unbearable, Garalt felt his innards churn at the smell.

The beast lunged for Garalt, but he quickly blocked with his shield, deflecting the beasts head into the water.  Kullvox lifted his mace and bashed in the neck of the thing.  Kullvox smiled at the young knight.

"Now is the time for your lesson in magical weapons, whelp!" Kullvox swung his mace again and again at the serpent, trying to lift its' head near him.  Every time his mace hit the creature, the mace seemed to give off more and more steam.  Finally, as Kullvox hit the beast once more, the whole neck section of the undead thing froze solid and then crumbled.  The small bits of flesh and bone began to float in the water about them.  Kullvox held his mace out of the water and began to walk after the two women who were now almost at shore.

"Your mace of water," Garalt stammered, "it really did freeze the beast!"
"Yes, whelp, and you thought I was joking when I explained it the first time."
"When will I receive a magical weapon?"
"When you prove yourself ready for one, young knight."
"So who bent the rules so you could have one?" Garalt smiled.  Kullvox looked back at him and shook his head, chuckling.
    "C'mon whelp, lets get dry."
