Awakening Feud
an illustrated tale

Baylun walked into the seminary before the other three, motioning to the other monks to make sure everything was picked up for the king's arrival.  The small library of the seminary was quaint, but well stocked.
"Please make yourself at home," Baylun bowed, making sure to motion mainly to the king, "This won't take but a minute."
King Rurik slowly made his way into the seminary's sitting room.  It was small but homey, certainly filled with belongings fit for the simple lifestyle of the monks.  King Rurik took a mental note to donate a significant sum to the seminary.  Garalt and Aylia, meanwhile, began to browse the library of the simple home.  Garalt found a large tome of maps, but none of them ever mentioned Blut'Ader.  He sighed and placed it back on the shelf.
"Ahh yes, here it is," Baylun said, walking back into the library carrying a rather dusty scroll, "I suppose it's been a while since I've read this."  Baylun chuckled at the thought as he blew off the rather large layer of dust.
"So this talks about the dragons?" Garalt asked quickly.
"Yes.  I don't know who told you to go to this Blut'Ader place, but according to this scroll, the red dragon Formeathan isn't but a few weeks hike from here."
     "What?" Alyia jumped.
"I sense a higher power at work here..." Garalt pondered.
"So what does the scroll say?" King Rurik asked interested, walking slowly to the three.
"It's rather lengthy, so bare with me," Baylun said, clearing his throat.  With the voice of a master storyteller, he began to read the scroll.

In the beginning of time, when the earth was still young, the gods of the earth were still making the world habitable for their various creations.  Being impatient, the dragon gods gave birth to the first inhabitant of the earth, Tel'Karak Zrahl.  The other gods were outraged that the dragon gods did such an act, and for centuries they squabbled and fought over the action.

Throughout that time, Tel'Karak Zrahl roamed the earth, alone, and soon grew mad, and began to destroy all that was around her.  The gods looked down upon her and saw that she was growing more and more evil with each passing day, and the more evil she became, the more out of balance the earth became.  The gods then commanded the dragon gods to create a good dragon to balance out the evil of Tel'Karak Zrahl, so they gave birth to the champion of the light, Vildegraas.

Unfortunately, Vildegraas decided to forfeit his ability to use magic and focus on
physical abilities alone.  Beyond this, Vildegraas was such an ally of the light, that he was more good than Tel'Karak Zrahl was evil.  This once again threw the earth out of balance.  They next gave birth to evil intentioned Tempi Frei, who chose to focus only on magic.  This totally wasted her body away to where she became slow and could only move naturally through the water, where her body was much lighter.  Yet again, the earth was out of balance.  For a fourth time, the dragon gods gave birth to a child, Formeathan.  Formeathan was a slight ally of the light, and was the fastest and most agile of the dragons.

With the earth finally in balance, the other gods cursed the four dragon siblings by removing their ability to reproduce, and thus removing their ability to throw the world out of balance again.  As for the dragon gods, the other gods forbade them from ever giving birth to another creature, and instead only allowed them to create much lesser beings.  These beings became known as the common dragons that humans know of today.

The two groups known as the Council and the Priests of Zaan were created before man wrote down history, with the soul purpose of stopping Tel'Karak Zrahl, who by this time had become mad with the idea of other creatures sharing her world.  Many centuries ago, the Priests of Zaan allied themselves to the red dragon Formeathan against Tel'Karak Zrahl.  The battle was fierce, but in the end, Tel'Karak Zrahl flew away victorious, and Formeathan was seriously wounded.

All four of the dragons can regenerate themselves, but Formeathan is the slowest of the four, and so the Priests of Zaan put him under a sleeping spell and hid him away in a great mountain so that his sister would not hunt him down.  Tempi Frei, being the next threat to Tel'Karak, was tricked by Tel'Karak into an underwater cave, and locked away for all eternity.  Vildegraas soon disappeared without a trace, and Tel'Karak was left to roam the world free to destroy all mankind and the other creations of the gods.

Finally, after many years of trying, a Priest of Zaan and a mighty wizard were able to put the dragon into a deep sleep, and locked her away, much like her brother, in a mountain.  But it came at a great cost.  By that time, Tel'Karak had been hunting down the Priests of Zaan, and had weakened them considerably, which left them vulnerable when the war between the Priests of Zaan and the Council broke out.

Formeathan yet sleeps, dormant in the mountains of Strattich.  Only by summoning the Bow of Zaan can one enter the cave in which he is held.  Locate the howling hill, near the tree of tears, speak the words of truth and the bow will arrive upon the breath of life.

Tempi Frei is lost to the world, trapped within her salty tomb.  She is held at bay by the very thing she loves, and there she will remain.  Only the Word of Zaan may release her, and only the Power of Zaan shall set her free.

The great Formeathan rests in the realm of giants, the land of stepping stones.  His curse was another's salvation, and only by releasing the angel can the demon be brought forth upon the world.  Bring to him the Eyes of Zaan, and his tears shall warm his heart.

As he finished, Baylun sighed and looked upon his king, and then upon the two strangers.  All were filled with a sense of awe at what they had heard.
