The Battle of the Gastiel
an illustrated tale
page 2

Haleron gave the order to charge, and with a tumultuous commotion, thirty horses began their charge down the narrow gap between the forces of Ikros and the steep valley wall.  Garalt knew who was up front before the charge order was given, and thought to himself on how unlucky the first few undead things would be to meet up with them.  Not only was Sir Haleron leading the charge, but on either side of him rode Sir Hillsbrad and Golan, the two remaining Jackals, as well as Sir Malvious, Sir Villious, and the Balvanz brothers.  The cream of Ikros' knights were all ready to charge and take down every single creature in their path.

Meanwhile, Garalt gave his own charge order.  Garalt's team began running through the trees and underbrush on the opposite side of the valley, on their way to Zakar himself.  Demonclaw and Scythe were no where near as heavily armored as the others in the group, and so quickly took point.  Garalt could tell the two were enjoying their time together again.  Garalt had noticed just how alike Demonclaw and Scythe were, using the same style weapon, acting in the same, brash manor.  Behind Garalt, ran Drakon, Kullvox and Swift-Strike.  Garalt had previously told Kullvox and Drakon to keep an eye on the rogue elf, Swift-Strike was not to be trusted, not after the questions arose from Tundrock's death.  But at least this way Swift-Strike was far away from Ulmerad and more importantly to Garalt, away from Aylia.  Tundrock was charged in keeping her safe, and if he was murdered, it could mean Swift-Strike was after the Princess.

By now the cavalry had made it to the edges of the Council's forces.  The initial resistance was very light, but it slowed the knights down long enough for the real power to arrive.
Trouble, Scourge, Horror, and just about every other wraith Ethelred controlled began to charge the advancing knights.  Garalt began to fear for the success of their plans, as Trouble alone could take on more than 6 of the knights present.  But Ikros was committed to this venture now.  There was no turning back, not now.  Ikros would fight till the last man or be destroyed trying.
