Hidden from Time
an illustrated tale
page 2

Garalt quickly climbed aboard the vessel.  Indeed it was a ship, and of fair size.  Drakon was next to climb up.
"Look at this, Drakon," Garalt said awestruck, "It's a ship in the middle of the forest."
    "Astounding," Drakon replied, looking about.
"Remarkable," Garn said, climbing up onto the deck of the ship.  He then turned around and helped the princess aboard as well.
"How did a vessel like this get into a forest so far inland?" Alyia said slowly.
"Perhaps a major flood?" Garn looked at Garalt.
"Or maybe it was just built here in place," Drakon said.
"Look at these odd tubes running down the length of the ship," Alyia said, moving closer to the bow.
"This is certainly NOT a conventional craft," Garalt said to himself.
"Look there," Drakon pointed to two large planks coming off the bow end of the boat.
"What are those?" Garn looked them over.
    "Paddles?" Alyia mused.

"They're wings," said a voice from the stern of the ship.  Garalt looked up and saw two elves standing up on the castle of the ship.
    "Wings?" Garalt questioned the elf.
"Yes, wings.  This is what you humans would call an airship.  I would tell you the elven name for it, but if you were to try to say it you'd swallow your own tongue."
    "Eww.." Alyia shuddered.
"Uhh, Garalt?" Garn stammered, "We're surrounded..."
Indeed they were.  Garalt looked around and saw three other elves, each brandishing a weapon.  Garalt had seen elves fight before the last time he was in the Venorian Forest, and he didn't think they could win a battle with them now.

"So tell me," the elf in grey began, he was obviously the elf in command, "what are you doing trespassing on elven lands, humans?  The activation stone there has been used up, so trying to over power us and steal our ship will never work."
"Sir, my name is Garalt, I come from the kingdom of..."
"Sir Garalt!" the elf in grey interrupted, "my apologies, we thought you were thieves."
"As well you should, good sir, anyone could come here and take this fantastic vessel." Garalt added.
"Nay, like I said, the activation stone is dry, we need a new one or this vessel will never fly again."
