A half hour had passed since the end
of the battle. The armies of Ikros had been scattered, sent off to
lick their wounds and to guard against any further threat to the kingdom.
All but one, Garalt thought. Kullvox had come to Garalt's side
after the disappearance of the Horde and Ethelred. The small group
that had gone with Garalt on their raid to kill Zakar had seen the whole
series of events play out, fortunately no one else had seen anything but
Garalt kill Zakar. Garalt thought that had anyone seen him under Ethelred's
control, no one would ever trust him the same. Now Kullvox and the
rest of the raiding party were helping Garalt limp back to the gathering
of the Ikros command. All of them greeted Garalt with encouraging words
and cheers. Alyia and Greylen were there, but Garn was not. Garalt
had earlier learned from Kullvox that Garn had collapsed from his fight with
the undead. That was enough Garalt thought, Garn had done his part.
Along side Alyia, rode Ulmerad upon his horse. Ulmerad it seemed
was so weak from the loss of the power of his sword that he now depended
upon his steed. Hillsbrad and Golan were both there, though for whatever
reason only Hillsbrad still had his mount. Sir Haleron's mount was
also there, along with Sir Haleron himself. Sir Villious, Sir Malvious,
Sir Brockram, Sir Xirin, and the three Balvanz brothers were also in attendance
of the meeting. All were present and accounted for, all except Lord
Daravon.
Garalt, however, was feeling less than
cheerful. Ethelred's spell had severely weakened him. But to
see Alyia safe again, was more than enough for Garalt. The thought
of the plot against his King, however, put just one more dampener upon his
spirits. As long as the usurpers were still at large, she was in danger.
Garalt could watch Swift-Strike for sure, but Garalt knew there were
others. At least one more. And two men are much more difficult
to watch then one. Garalt would need to tell his King about the plot.
There was no way to hide it now. Now that the kingdom was safe,
the King was what needed guarding.
"It's time to tell him," Garalt muttered to Kullvox, who
nodded quickly in reply.
