Corincia, the Mercenary Capitol
an illustrated tale
page 1

"Corincia is a rough place," Garalt explained to the group, "the city is teeming with mercenaries and thieves."
"There is no order to the city?" Allamir seemed concerned.
"The city is a haven for those seeking to earn their fortune, legally or otherwise.  Thus, the city is under martial law.  There is a permanent squad of soldiers that patrols the streets.  When they aren't around, all sorts of people show themselves."
"I suggest we try to keep low key," Kullvox turned to Allamir, "we cannot address you as your Majesty, lest we risk being attacked and robbed."
"Very well," Allamir nodded, "Kullvox, Garalt, while we are in the city, I order you to refer to my daughter and myself by our names alone."  The two knights nodded.
"We'll seek Headmaster Gibben's help inside," Garalt said, "we'll tried to get some fast mounts to ride back to the Capitol."
Garalt did not know what exactly they would find within the city walls, but he knew he had to stay on his toes.  He could not let the Queen or his Princess come to any harm.
The city was not nearly as large as the Capitol, but it was certainly impressive.  The whole city surrounded the main castle, which served as the training grounds for all those who could pay to enter.  One thing was for sure, the city was much more quiet than any they had been to before.  Marshall law kept things very tight lipped.  As the seven walked through the gates of the city, a lone figure walked out of the castle and greeted them.
"Greetings travelers," the man said, "welcome to Corincia.  I am Ciron Balvanz, ambassador of Headmaster Gibben."
"Ciron Balvanz?  Retired Knight of the Lion's Crest?" Kullvox asked.
    "Aye, the same."
"We are of the Lion's Crest, Sir, we seek the help of Headmaster Gibben."
"Very well.  When you find the time, make your way to the castle, I shall make sure you meet with him."  With that, Ciron turned sharply and walked back into the castle.
"That man, Garalt," Kullvox said softly, "was one of the great ones."
