The Search for the Stone
an illustrated tale
page 2

In an instant, Garalt jumped off the hill right at the Venorians with Drakon right behind.  Before Garn and Tundrock could get down to their level, Garalt and Drakon had slain all five of the creatures.  Drakon slowly took a piece of cloth from his belt and began to clean off his sword.

"That wasn't a very fair fight, boy," Garn said with an air of disgust.
"What do you mean, Tundrock, we were out numbered," answered Garalt.
"Aye, but ya suprised the poor bastards, they didn'a stand a chance.  How do we know after they saw us they would have attacked?" Tundrock added.
"Garn, you were there when we first encountered the Venorians, weren't you?" Garalt looked at the paladin.
    "Well, yes,"
"You heard what Kullvox said about the Venorians.   Simple, oportunistic creatures, they would have either attacked us or they would have ran to find help.  We couldn't have afforded to fight more of them."
    "True, I suppose..."
"Still, lad, these aren't the actions of a knight," Tundock said softly.
"Yes, they're the actions of a group of men desperate to save their country," Garalt glared at the knight.  There was a long pause of silence that followed.

Garalt slowly walked over the odd looking chest that the Venorians had been surrounding.  Looking it over, Garalt then looked at the other three knights.
"Well, we did the deed, let's see what we fought for..." Garalt said slowly, turning back around to the chest.  Leaning over slowly, Garalt inspected the lock on the chest.  He stepped back slowly and swung his sword hard against the metal device.  It popped off easily.  Garalt smiled, layed his sword down to the side and slowly flipped the latch on the chest open.  As he opened it slowly, his mind raced as what could be inside.  Though he knew it couldn't be the activation stone they so desperately needed, it could be something very valuable, or perhaps useful to use on their quest.
What the open chest revealed shocked the young knight.  All that lie in the chest was a single, oddly colored blue gauntlet.  Garalt slowly picked it up and showed it to the other knights.
"THAT'S what we fought for?" Drakon commented.
"Well, it surely must be important to be in a chest like that," Garn mused.
Garalt slowly slipped the gauntlet on.
    "Hmm... nice fit," Garalt smiled.
"LAD!  What are you doing?!  Ya don'na know what that could do to ya!" warned Tundrock.  The other two just stared.
"Well, I don't feel any... umm..."
